Rarities

As a card collector, I have come across so many cards. Among them, there are those cards that I would like to term “rarities”. These are cards that are so scarce that there are very few of them left on the market. Here are a few of the card decks that are truly rare.

Golden Touch

The Golden Touch Deck is a deck that is made of solid gold. These cards are so rare that when I saw them they didn’t have a price. All I was allowed to do was to view them. Unfortunately, they also did not have an origin so it was hard for me as a collector to actually find out where they came from or who had made such a deck. So in all my knowledge as a professor, I felt stuck. All I could do was to mention them on my site in hopes that one reader will be able to identify them and helpfully solve the mystery of this deck.

Americana Circular Cards

When we think of cards, we always picture a deck with a rectangular shape. However, these cards are circular. That’s what makes them so rare. The American Circular Deck is a deck that was created during the 1880’s. The deck has a joker who is African-American and is carrying a pipe. The Ace is also an African-American Lady. The deck has an inscription on it “As Black as the Ace of Spades”.  The deck is assumed to be worth more than $400.

Golden Nugget Playing Cards

For those who might have an interest in the history of cards and gambling, then the Golden Nugget is no new term. The Golden Nugget is one of the oldest gaming houses in Las Vegas built around 1946. During its time, it was a very popular gaming house and so it made sense that it had their very own set of cards. The cards have 9 different types that are very much sort after. I was lucky to come across the type 2 of the 2nd generation. These were printed between 1967 -1972 and assumed to be worth more than $1 500.

Arabesque Playing Cards

These are probably the rarest and most sort after cards. This is because of two reasons. Firstly, these cards are hard to manufacture. The detail that is on the back of the cards is unique and takes time to perfect. The other reason is that the 3 and 8 of spades have the wrong suite indicators. This deck of cards are going for at least $200.

This is a rather unique deck. What makes them the special is that the face of these cards is not the usual black and white, but it is green. The spades are green and the hearts are red and yellow. The deck looks like it was based on more of a Catholic theme. Very few decks were made like this and this one dates back to the 1970’s and it is valued at more than $200.
